COSMETOLOGY COURSE OF STUDY

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT DISCLOSURE REPORT

Program Objective

The objective is to prepare the student for the Florida State Board of Cosmetology Examination to become a Licensed Cosmetologist and enter the field of beauty.

Program Description

The Academy program is comprised of seven sections totaling 1200 clock hours, 36 week or 9 months in duration. The following is a condensed summary of the skills taught during the seven (7) phases.

CS-101

Basics Curriculum Phase including 170 hours of general theory with an additional 5 hours of theory specific HIV/AIDS education. Students are introduced to the theory of hair arranging, hair removal, hair shaping, scalp treatments, hair care rinses, hair coloring, chemical waving, relaxing, straightening, manicuring, pedicure, nail extension, Florida Law, sanitation, sterilization, facials, skin care, HIV/AIDS, ethics, and electricity.

CS-102

Basics Laboratory Phase including 140 hours of classroom theory plus 35 hours of clinic floor time working with model and practical assessment. Students are introduced to the practical application and procedures of hair arranging, hair removal, hair shaping, scalp treatments, hair care rinses, hair coloring, chemical waving, relaxing, straightening, manicuring, pedicure, nail extension, facials, and skin care in a classroom setting, along with working on mannequins and student provided models.

CS-201

Hair Color Phase including 31.25 hours of classroom theory plus an additional 143.75 hours on the clinic floor preforming services on mannequins and guest. Advanced training in the procedures of scalp treatments, rinses and hair coloring, strand test, explanation of hydrogen peroxide, identify lighteners, single & double process, tint applications, special effects, properties of hair and scalp, hair fibers, follicles and perfecting practical skills while working on clinic floor guests.

CS-202

Anatomy/Chemistry & Florida Law Phase including 31.25 hours of classroom theory plus an additional 143.75 hours on the clinic floor preforming services on mannequins and guest. Florida Law and Regulations, comprehension of the PH scale, matter, molecules, atoms, oxidation, anatomy, physiology, the human body and its muscular, skeletal & circulatory systems and perfecting practical skills while working on clinic floor guests..

CS-203

Hair Cutting/Sanitation & Sterilization Phase including 31.25 hours of classroom theory plus an additional 143.75 hours on the clinic floor preforming services on mannequins and guest. Infection control, the prevention of disease spread, sanitation, sterilization, disinfection and disposal protocol. Advanced training in women’s and men’s cutting while working on clinic floor guests.

CS-204

Skin Care/Hair, Styling/Hair Removal & Chemical Wave Phase with 31.25 hours of classroom theory plus an additional 143.75 hours on the clinic floor preforming services on mannequins and guest. Advanced Skin care training; identify skin & its functions, disorders, diseases, product usage for all skin types and advanced training in the fields of hair removal, skin care, skin care product, make-up, eye lash extensions, chemical waving, relaxing & straightening. Advanced training on soft curls, chemical ingredients, chemically altered hair styling, hair extensions and perfecting practical skills while working on clinic floor guests.

CS-301

Senior Phase including 30 hours of intense classroom theory plus an additional 120 clinic hours on the clinic floor preforming services on mannequins and guest. Senior Curriculum trains students with establishing the life skills required to transition from school to a career in the beauty industry, as well as state board examination testing skills, job interviewing skills, salon ownership, business skills, and Florida law.
